PlayStation All Stars Battle Royal Review

REVIEW

Introduction:

PlayStation All Star Battle Royal the combination of all the top rated characters that have called the PlayStation there home whether it be familiar faces like Sir Daniel from the infamous Medievil to the long time no see Parapa The Rappa to newer characters such as the lovable Sack boy from Little Big Planet or the skull smashing god slayer himself Kratos from the God Of War Series whether it be new or old there will be characters you will recognize in this mash up but dose this game warrant a buy from you or should this mash up be thrown to one side and forgotten

Story:

The story premise in PlayStation All Stars Battle Royal is simple and by simple i mean that every character has there own specific back story to it but all with the same goal they all want to be the ultimate PlayStation star with all the power simple premise and easy to understand there are a few different back stories that give it replay value to see all the endings for the different characters in the game and also to see the final boss of the game whom some may not recognize the big bad guy for this game is Polygon Man if you have absolutely no idea who this is then here he is this picture is from the 1995 PlayStation conference (picture to right) and was the original mascot for Sony only to be replaced by Crash bandicoot and Parapa The Rappa who where the more popular characters at the time so it only stands to reason that possibly he is a little bit angry with sony and has decided to take down the whole idea but without a solid story its very hard to put a back story as to why they went with Polygon Man as there final boss in this game

Gameplay:

The game play in PlayStation All Stars Battle Royal has a familiar feel to it as in that its very similar to the game play in the ever popular Nintendo series Super Smash Brothers but unlike it there is some differences that set it apart not alot mind you but there are some such as the way you eliminate your opponents instead of building damage and knocking them off stage with a well placed attack its instead done with a well placed and built up super attack with varying levels 1 which will strike the closest enemy to you and if well placed can clear the stage for a single point level 2 is much the same as depending on the character it can be very short range and level 3 this is the strongest and takes a little while to build even with multiple opponents this one allows you to gain multiple points due to the length of the effect some will transform and gain a weapon some will gain some form of weapon or others will turn you into something and repeatedly hit you for points while you float there helpless the game play is manic and fun but its not without its flaws the controls leave it feeling a tad sluggish regardless of which version of the game you are playing and the arbitrary weapons littering the stage have very little purpose nor effect if you choose to use them at all the game play also suffers due to the same problem that super smash brothers has struggled with for years and that is controls for jumping with a lack of control its easy for you to miss your platform your trying to reach or missing your jump to avoid a super attack this makes it suffer but the game play is still manic and fun and can keep you entertained

Design:

The Design in PlayStation All Stars Battle Royal is a little shaky at best the characters look sluggish the environments are choppy and they have some jagged edges but there are some stages that you can appreciate there graphics for and some of the characters have had far more time spent on there development than others due to the slender design and the graphical difference between them but never the less the games design preforms admirably and holds up to a certain degree and there is no slow downs or glitches to speak of so really it would be fair to give it the benefit of the doubt that for all the manic game play happening on screen the game holds up without a blur

Multiplayer:

The multi-player in PlayStation All Stars Battle Royal is fun and manic as well as one of the few games for the PS3 that allows you to take on your friends in the same room rather than just over the internet the game play is fun but this game can be faulted on the lack of modes for players to enjoy but i suppose the characters that are in the games selection as well as DLC more than makes up for it while its modest its still better than most the online multi-player is addictive and fun with stable servers and keeps the game from getting old as well as the diverse matches to be made online makes for a fun time as well as the cross platform play to the PSVita version of the game which as an added bonus comes as a Free download when you purchase the PS3 version of the game through Sony's cross buy feature with alot of there games but it comes as a welcome fun feature for gamers to play around with

Verdict:

All in all PlayStation All Stars Battle Royal is a fun manic game with strange game play and an odd array of misfits to keep the game fun and worth a play every now and then and it makes for a fun multi-player as well as the cross buy giving you two games for the price of one and not at to high a price to make it a pain while the game has its flaws and takes a little while to warm to there is something about this game that will keep you coming back for more and more

Rating out of 10
