Uncharted Golden Abyss Review

REVIEW

Introduction:

Uncharted is a series that has made its mark in the short period that it has been circulating on the PS3 with a solid story game play and a set of characters that people have come to identify with action in Uncharted Golden Abyss the series makes its first appearance as a launch title for the new PSVita system attempting to being the same game play experience as the home console games to a new portable is no easy task dose this adventure feel epic on the go or is this an adventure that should be lost to history like so many others

Story:

Set a number of year before the events of Uncharted Drakes Fortune on the PS3 the events of Uncharted Golden Abyss finds the ever familiar Nathan Drake attempting to uncover the dark secrets behind a 400 year old massacre of a Spanish Expedition Drake follows a trail of murder and clues accompanied by his old friend Jason Dante after progressing through a rivalry appears between Drake and Dante splitting them only to have another companion join Drake on his adventure enter Marisa Chase who is searching for answers as to what happened to her grandfather on his search for the Golden Abyss an ancient lost city there are many twists and turns that keep the player on edge and interested making for a deep experience

Gameplay:

The game play in Golden Abyss is fast and fluid and is very familiar to veterans of the series the combat flows with wall to wall cover fast responsive controls make for a great game play experience movement with the PSVita's new control system is fluid thanks to the dual analog sticks makes the game feel more like its home system counter parts there are a few down sides such as the touch screen control's that sometimes make you feel that your going to swipe the screen clean off the system and with the tilt controls sometimes being a little less than responsive but one feature that in my own humble opinion i feel could have gotten a bit more use was the feature of using the camera on the vita to shed light on a piece of information the game play never really feels sluggish it runs at a fluid and fast pace and keeps the player involved for many play through's with some fresh new ideas that hopefully will return in future iterations of the series

Design:

The design and look of Uncharted Golden Abyss is definitely impressive due to it only running on the PSVita's  5 inch screen but still manages to make a solid impression with stunning visuals making the environment's seem large and diverse making the game seem larger and larger with deep dark crevasse's that allow the player to feel like they have the complete console experience while they are out in the world the look of the game will astound and making this the perfect game to show off the power of the PSVita to your friends

Extra:

While Uncharted Golden Abyss lacks multi-player there is now an add on called Uncharted Fight For Fortune which adds a Card based game play where you can play as all your old favorites from the Uncharted Series Sully , Marisa , Drake and so on this add on also add's the feature of online multi-player  game also allows you to use the treasures you find in Golden Abyss during the game to unlock bonus fortune cards in the future i will do a review of Fight For Fortune but in the mean time if you are looking to extend the play value of your Uncharted game play on the go pick up Uncharted Fight For Fortune from the PSN for £7.29 for the complete edition it dose require a memory card with space of 286.2MB for it to be used

Verdict:

Uncharted Golden Abyss is a strong confident launch title for the PSVita showing its power and showing just what can be done on the hardware the controls are sleek and solid while they sometimes may not be as responsive as you would hope for but for a new hardware its not exactly shocking that they aren't the best thing since sliced bread the game play is enough to keep you interested the amount of collectibles in the game will keep you going back for more and more as well as the  decent length of story and combat to keep the game feeling fresh and interesting

Rating Out Of 10:

9.5/10

Solid Strong and Confident the game is definitely one for your collection and makes for an exciting game to play on the go
