Tomb Raider 2013 Review

REVIEW

Introduction:

Tomb Raider has become more than an icon of its time its become a messuring stick of greatness and has influenced many titles over the years while it has been many years since we have seen good old lara explore some tombs taking up her trusty gear and taking us on a wild ride through some unexplored land with this reboot of the iconic series there are many things to be skeptical about with such a great series being reborn but the main question is is this a rebirth of an icon worth putting your faith in or is this a rebirth that should have never come to pass

Story:

The Story in Tomb Raider is one that will keep the player interested with multiple twists and turns aswell as plenty of action and heart throbbing scenes to keep you on the edge of your seat you play as the infamous Lara Croft at the tender age of just 16 in this reboot while she is young she is not without her education while on an expedition to the mysterious island of Yamati when tragedy strikes and the ship that Lara and her team becomes entangled with a storm and wrecks landing them on the island they where looking for once on Yamati Lara must learn to survive against the elements aswell as the strange inhabitants of the island with plenty of strange and interesting plot routes it keeps the player going for hours and keeps the story feeling fresh and original as you play on lara becomes more and more like a true explorer and a true survivor.

Gameplay:

The game play in Tomb Raider is fast fluid and action packed with an immerse cover system a great stable aiming system that makes sure that if you have the skill your gonna end who ever your aiming at with one swift shot there is also the easy to master fast and fluid upgrade system that allows you to turn Lara into the exact kind of survivor that you want her to be with tracking puzzles and a hunting element that plays into the gameplay superbly as well as the great responsive platforming sections of the game that keeps the player involved and immersed into the gameplay as well as a superb array of weapons such as shotguns pistols and the new bow and arrow that has many a different function which plays a part in many puzzles and combat to keep everything feeling fresh and fluid the game also has an incredible set of collectible's to find from trinkets to parts for weapons even down to the classic gems and pots and masks to keep you going back again and again

Design:

Tomb Raider is a stunningly beautiful game the island of Yamati looks great from the moment you wash up on it to the moment you say good bye stunning visuals expertly executed facial expressions nothing short of what we would expect from a company such as Square Enix the design of the game executed with such spectacle so that every detail of the game plays and looks spectacular down to the smallest detail including a very nice touch of permanent damage to Lara's body and clothing giving the player a sense of realism to make the world you are thrust into one of horrific beauty as well as stunning environments making it a pleasure to play through again and again

Multi-player:

The multi-player in Tomb Raider is fast fluid and creative with large areas to play in split into two factions one playing survivors others playing as the inhabitants of Yamati there is a multitude of different modes to play through to prevent game play from getting stale from many of the same type of match as well as the different weapons the survivors can use and the weapons the inhabitants can use in the multi-player mode keeps it feeling fresh and interesting as well as a ranking system that keeps the player on board along side the many different unlockable characters to use in the multi-player mode keeps the game playing like a dream for hours on end with friends or to make friends

Verdict:

Tomb Raider is a reboot that has certainly done the original iterations justice the game is fluid and intense as well as an amazing story that will keep the player interested till the final moments of the game with stunning enviroments great scenery and a true sense that your surviving on an island full of psychopathic inhabitants with a combat and upgrade system that really gives you control over how Lara will develop over the time that you put into the game aswell as the additional missions this game truly is deserving of being under the name Tomb Raider

Score out of 10:

10/10
